We go through life and we pick up things along the way, sometimes beautiful things, sometimes painful things. Some things can be healed removed and washed away; then, some things will just be a thorn in the flesh.
Bathrooms are some of the most intimate places, some of the most vulnerable places, some of the most “naked.” That’s usually the place where we want the most privacy. So this whole shebang reminds me of Gideon in Judges 6. He was hiding from the journey and God found him anyway. Almost everything that he carried with him to win the battle was removed. All of the thoughts about himself that were holding him back from seeing himself in God’s image had to be cast out. There was a renewal of the mind, body and spirit to its rightful structure that caused Gideon to win on his journey.
The way that God cares for us reminds me of some of our processes in the bathroom. What goes on in the bathroom is a washing away of excess things (the shower), the removal of “waste”(the toilet), the grooming of things (mirror).
Shower: We have to wash away the dirt, whether we caused it or someone else. We have to let God’s love cleanse us from the inside out, from internal pain, grief, pride and insecurities. It’s tough because depending on what we went through that day, it would be wise to spend a little more time in the shower LOL. That’s how it is with God. Some things take a little longer to heal and cleanse, but still GET IN THE SHOWER. Get to all the nooks, crannies and crevices. Go through the process. Learn the lesson. Strip away all of the excess things that don’t add to your life. Unlearn behaviors that don’t suit you.
Waste: Our body has to release. We were made that way. Our body literally was created like that saying “chew the meat; spit out the bones.” We were not created to hold everything inside of us. Release and do it before you’re spiritually “backed up”. Anyway, cast every care on Him, release every heavy thing and find restoration for your soul. We hear the term “self-care” so often, but you have to start from the inside - out. What have you ingested that’s making things difficult? Get rid of it. Let it out.
Grooming: After you’ve cleansed and released and healed, I’m pretty sure you groom, prep, moisturize, hydrate and nourish. It becomes time to put on something new. Much like Gideon, the journey is not over once we abandon our old mindset. That’s really the beginning. What are you going to add to your life now? Whatever it is, make it beautiful for you and the God that is within you.
